Made in a lab from just three amino acids, Vesugen comes from the Russian bioregulator research program behind several other ultra-short peptides in this reference. Researchers propose that it works on the cells lining blood vessels from within, through gene-activity pathways linked to aging, and it is available in Russia as a dietary supplement rather than a registered medicine. Only about a dozen indexed papers make up the published evidence, most of it laboratory and animal work, alongside two small, uncontrolled looks at humans, one of which also reported a possible unwanted effect on blood cell formation; one key animal paper, in addition, carries a published correction for a duplicated figure.
What it is
Vesugen, sometimes spelled Vezugen, is built from just three amino acids in the sequence lysine, glutamic acid, and aspartic acid, making it among the very smallest peptides this research tradition has studied. Like related short peptides from the same group, it is proposed to be small enough to cross both the outer cell membrane and the membrane around the nucleus, allowing it to interact directly with the machinery that controls gene activity.
The specific target of interest for Vesugen is the endothelium, the thin layer of cells lining blood vessels from the inside. Endothelial cells change with age in ways researchers link to blood vessel stiffening and reduced blood flow, and Vesugen has been studied in laboratory cell cultures and animal models for whether it can shift some of the molecular markers associated with that aging process.
How it is studied
Vesugen's evidence base is mostly preclinical: laboratory experiments in cultured vascular cells, a rat model, and one 2021 mouse study of Alzheimer's-disease-related brain changes, alongside two small, uncontrolled observational reports in elderly people that were not randomized or placebo-controlled. There is no registered, controlled human clinical trial of Vesugen in the record behind this entry, and no human pharmacokinetic data, meaning there is no published measurement of how quickly the peptide is absorbed or cleared in people.
What studies report
- A 2021 study in a mouse model of Alzheimer's disease reported that Vesugen helped prevent the loss of a particular type of brain-cell connection point that is normally lost as the disease model progresses; the same journal later published a correction after the authors' own figures for two of the experiments turned out to be duplicates of each other, an error the authors say does not change their conclusions. - A small, uncontrolled observational study in 41 elderly men with erectile dysfunction linked to narrowed arteries reported improved penile blood flow, measured before and after treatment, after a course of Vesugen, though the study had no control group and was not randomized or blinded. [1]
- A separate small, uncontrolled observational study in 32 elderly patients with several coexisting health conditions reported that a course of Vesugen and a related peptide slowed markers of biological aging, but the same study also reported a large drop in a blood marker of early, unspecialized stem cells, which the authors described as significant inhibition of new blood cell formation. What is not known
No controlled, randomized human trial of Vesugen has been published, and the two human observations that do exist involved small numbers of patients with no control group, which limits how much can be concluded about cause and effect. The 2021 mouse Alzheimer's-model study central to Vesugen's neuroprotection claim carries a 2025 correction for a duplicated figure, a detail researchers should weigh when reading the original results even though the authors say it does not change their conclusions. The drop in early blood-cell markers reported in the 32-patient study has not been followed up or explained in any later published work, and no formal safety study establishing a tolerable human amount has ever been conducted.

Regulatory status
Vesugen is not approved as a pharmaceutical anywhere. In Russia it is available as a biologically active food supplement rather than a registered drug, and it has no marketing authorization from the United States Food and Drug Administration, the European Medicines Agency, or Health Canada, and no registered entries in international clinical trial databases.
